Chapter 8
Drafted by Grok 4.7 on 8 October 2026. First draft. Not independently reviewed. Aramaic and Hebrew where a Qumran copy can be read (4Q196–4Q200), and otherwise the longer Greek of Codex Sinaiticus. The shorter Greek in Swete is not the base. Gaps in Sinaiticus are not filled from a later edition.
When they had finished eating and drinking, they wanted to sleep. They led the young man in and brought him into the room.
Tobias remembered Raphael’s words. He took the fish’s liver and heart from the bag he had, and he put them on the embers of the incense.
The smell of the fish stopped the demon, and it fled up into the regions of Egypt. Raphael went and bound it there, and tied it up at once.

Sinaiticus repeats “at once,” once in a damaged spelling. It is printed once. No Qumran line for the binding in Egypt was readable in the fragments checked for this draft.
They went out and shut the door of the room. Tobias got up from the bed and said to her, “Sister, get up. Let us pray and ask our Lord to act toward us with mercy and safety.”
She got up, and they began to pray and ask that safety would come to them. He began to say, “Blessed are you, God of our fathers, and blessed is your name for all the ages of the generations. May the heavens and all your creation bless you for all the ages.
You made Adam, and you made for him a helper and support, Eve his wife, and from the two of them came the human race. You said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. Let us make him a helper like him.’

The prayer quotes a creation line in Greek. This draft translates that Greek. It does not adjust the wording to a Hebrew verse of Genesis.
And now I am not taking this kinswoman of mine out of lust, but in truth. Command that you have mercy on me and on her, and that we grow old together.”
They said with each other, “Amen, amen.”
And they slept the night.
Raguel got up and called his servants to him. They went and dug a grave. He said, “He may die, and we will become a joke and a disgrace.”
When they finished digging the grave, Raguel came into the house and called his wife.
He said, “Send one of the young women. Have her go in and see if he is alive or dead, so that we can bury him, and so that no one else knows.”
They sent the young woman. They lit the lamp, opened the door, and she went in. She found them sleeping, asleep together.
The young woman came out and told them that he was alive and that nothing bad had happened.
They blessed the God of heaven and said, “Blessed are you, God, with every pure blessing. May they bless you for all the ages.
And blessed are you because you made me glad. It did not happen as I expected. You have dealt with us according to your great mercy.
And blessed are you because you have had mercy on two only children. Master, deal with them in mercy and safety, and bring their life to its end with joy and mercy.”
Then he told his servants to fill in the grave before dawn.
He told his wife to bake many loaves. He went to the herd and brought two oxen and four rams, and he told them to prepare the animals, and they began the work.
He called Tobias and said to him, “For fourteen days you will not move from here. You will stay here, eating and drinking with me, and you will cheer the spirit of my daughter, who has been in pain.
Take half of everything I have from here, and go in good health to your father. The other half, when I die, and my wife too, is yours. Take heart, child. I am your father and Edna is your mother. We are yours, and your sister’s, from now on, forever. Take heart, child.”
