Leningrad Codex, through the Open Scriptures Westminster Leningrad Codex. The written consonants are printed. A Masoretic reading is footnoted when it differs. No Dead Sea reading was substituted unless it was read from a fragment. The Samaritan Pentateuch and the Greek, Syriac, and Latin versions are witnesses, not the default.
A dotted word is a harder one. Point at it, or tap it, for a short definition.
We turned and set out into the wilderness by the way of the Sea of Reeds, as God’s own name. The Hebrew writes YHWH. See the glossary. spoke to me, and we went around Mount Seir for many days.
God’s own name. The Hebrew writes YHWH. See the glossary. said to me, saying,
You have gone around this mountain long enough. Turn yourselves north.
Command the people, saying, You are about to cross the border of your brothers, the sons of Esau, who live in Seir. They will be afraid of you, so keep yourselves very careful.
Do not stir them up, for I will not give you any of their land, not so much as a place for the sole of a foot, because I have given Mount Seir to Esau as a possession.
You shall buy food from them with silver, and you shall eat. And you shall also buy water from them with silver, and you shall drink.
For God’s own name. The Hebrew writes YHWH. See the glossary. your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand. He has known your walking through this great wilderness. These forty years God’s own name. The Hebrew writes YHWH. See the glossary. your God has been with you. You have lacked nothing.
We crossed on from our brothers, the sons of Esau who live in Seir, away from the way of the Arabah, from Elath and from Ezion-geber. We turned and crossed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.
God’s own name. The Hebrew writes YHWH. See the glossary. said to me, Do not besiege Moab, and do not stir them up for war, for I will not give you any of his land as a possession, because I have given Ar to the sons of Lot as a possession.
The Emim lived there before, a people great and many and tall, like the Anakim.
They are also thought of as Rephaim, like the Anakim, and the Moabites call them Emim.
The Horites lived in Seir before, and the sons of Esau dispossessed them and destroyed them from before them and lived in their place, as Israel did to the land of his possession, which God’s own name. The Hebrew writes YHWH. See the glossary. gave them.
Now rise and cross the A stream bed that keeps water, or runs when the rain comes. Zered for yourselves. So we crossed the A stream bed that keeps water, or runs when the rain comes. Zered.
The days we walked from Kadesh-barnea until we crossed the A stream bed that keeps water, or runs when the rain comes. Zered were thirty-eight years, until the whole generation of the men of war had come to an end from the midst of the camp, as God’s own name. The Hebrew writes YHWH. See the glossary. had sworn to them.
The hand of God’s own name. The Hebrew writes YHWH. See the glossary. was against them too, to panic them out of the midst of the camp, until they had come to an end.
When all the men of war had finished dying from among the people,
God’s own name. The Hebrew writes YHWH. See the glossary. spoke to me, saying,
You are crossing today the border of Moab, that is, Ar.
You will come opposite the sons of Ammon. Do not besiege them, and do not stir them up, for I will not give you any of the land of the sons of Ammon as a possession, because I have given it to the sons of Lot as a possession.
It too is thought of as a land of the Rephaim. Rephaim lived in it before, and the Ammonites call them Zamzummim,
a people great and many and tall, like the Anakim. God’s own name. The Hebrew writes YHWH. See the glossary. destroyed them from before them, and they dispossessed them and lived in their place,
as he did for the sons of Esau who live in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites from before them, and they dispossessed them and have lived in their place to this day.
And the Avvim, who lived in the settlements as far as Gaza, the Caphtorim, who came out from Caphtor, destroyed them and lived in their place.
Rise, set out, and cross the A stream bed that keeps water, or runs when the rain comes. Arnon. See, I have given into your hand Sihon king of Heshbon, the Amorite, and his land. Begin to take possession, and stir him up for war.
This day I will begin to put the dread of you and the fear of you on the face of the peoples under the whole sky, who will hear the report of you and tremble and writhe before you.
I sent messengers from the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon king of Heshbon, with words of peace, saying,
Let me cross your land. I will go only by the road. I will not turn right or left.
You shall sell me food for silver, and I will eat, and you shall give me water for silver, and I will drink. Only let me cross on foot,
as the sons of Esau who live in Seir did for me, and the Moabites who live in Ar, until I cross the Jordan into the land that God’s own name. The Hebrew writes YHWH. See the glossary. our God is giving us.
But Sihon king of Heshbon was not willing to let us cross him, for God’s own name. The Hebrew writes YHWH. See the glossary. your God had hardened his spirit and made his heart firm, in order to give him into your hand, as it is this day.
God’s own name. The Hebrew writes YHWH. See the glossary. said to me, See, I have begun to give Sihon and his land over to you. Begin to take possession, so that you take possession of his land.
Sihon came out to meet us, he and all his people, for war at Jahaz.
God’s own name. The Hebrew writes YHWH. See the glossary. our God gave him over before us, and we struck him, and his son, and all his people.
